An overview of your trip
Day 1 - Depart Amsterdam/IJmuiden for your crossing to Newcastle and arrive rested, ready for your road trip.
Day 2 - From the port of Newcastle, you will take a 3-hour drive to the Scottish city of Glasgow. Here you can spend a night.
Day 3 - From Glasgow, it's a 2.5 hour drive to Oban. From there take the crossing to Craignure on the Isle of Mull.
Day 4 - Take a day to explore the beautiful Isle of Mull.
Day 5 - You can take the ferry from Fionnphort (Mull) to the Isle of Iona within 10 minutes. From Iona you have the option of taking a bus tour to the Isle of Staffa. You can also stay on the Isle of Iona and see the sights.
Day 6 - In the morning, drive to the ferry terminal in Craignure (Mull) from where the ferry will take you back to Oban in 50 minutes. From Oban, continue to Glasgow for your last night in Scotland.
Days 7 and 8 - Return from Glasgow to Newcastle and depart with DFDS to Amsterdam/IJmuiden.
The Wonders of Glasgow and the Isle of Mull
Your Scottish adventure begins in the city of Glasgow, known for its extraordinary architecture and fascinating art exhibitions and museums. Explore the fabulous exhibitions at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, or take a detour to Ashton Lane with its romantic ambience of cobbled streets and ornate fairy lights.
From Glasgow, it's a 2.5 hour drive to Oban, known as the gateway to the Scottish islands. Take the ferry to Craignure, where your trip to the Isle of Mull begins! Drive the scenic roads to Tobermory, a lively and welcoming town known for its colourful harbour. To stretch your legs, follow the idyllic coastal path from the harbour to the remote Rubha nan Gall lighthouse - it's worth a short hike for the views! Continue your adventure to Calgary Bay, a gorgeous white sand beach in the north of Mull. And if you're a fan of waterfalls, be sure to stop at Eas Fors Waterfall.
The stunning Isle of Iona and Isle of Staffa
From Fionnphort, you can reach the Isle of Iona in 10 minutes by CalMac ferry. Despite its small size, the island has an irresistible charm and fascinating history that make it a must-see in Scotland. Spend a day on the sandy beaches and explore iconic Iona Abbey, the cradle of Christianity in Scotland.
From the Isle of Iona, you can also take a boat trip to the Isle of Staffa, known for its natural hexagonal basalt columns of volcanic origin and Fingal's Cave. Also look out for dolphins, porpoises and minke whales, which are often seen in the warmer months. And of course, the highlight of Staffa is the enchanting colony of puffins that breed there every summer, so you'll have the opportunity to see these beautiful animals up close.
