Advanced Passenger Information (API)
When traveling to and from the UK, it is now mandatory to provide Advance Passenger information. This is a requirement that is needed for each person prior to travel from the Government of the country you are travelling to and from and must be completed no less than 24hrs prior to travel.
1. What is Advanced Passenger information?
All UK Ports are required by the Government to collect Advance Passenger Information from each person that is leaving or entering the country. API collected information from your passport will include the following:
- Full name, as shown on your passport
- Date of Birth
- Sex/Gender
- Nationality
- Passport Number
- Passport expiry date
- Passport issuing country
2. How do I provide my API details?
Advanced Passenger Information data can be submitted in two ways:
- Via the web link attached in the confirmation email Passport/ID Card Details | DFDS
- Via the DFDS APP clicking on the ‘Fill in’ button attached to your ticket
3. When do I need to provide my API details?
You must submit your Advance Passenger Information details no less than 24 hours before sailing.
4. I have entered my details incorrectly, what should I do?
Once details are submitted, they cannot be amended, please make sure you check over all details before submitted the document. Any incorrect details can be collected at check in.
5. I have amended the passengers travelling on my booking, do I need to resubmit my details?
Once you have amended the booking with details of any additional passengers, API details will need to be submitted for them. Once you have updated your booking, you will be able to use the areas shown below to provide the API details for the additional passenger.

- Via the DFDS APP clicking on the ‘Fill in’ button attached to your ticket
6. Do I need to provide all the passenger information at once?
You can submit API details for one passenger and then either close the form & return or continue to add the other passenger details in one go.
7. What do I do if a different person travels on the outward journey to the return?
At this current time, we currently cannot support entering a different passenger on the outward and homeward leg. Any changes needed for this will be collected at the time of check in and sent to the authorities.
8. Do I complete the whole trip outward and return?
Advance Passenger Information is collected for the entire reservation & journey, including the outward & return trips. You do not need to resubmit for the return journey.
9. How do I know if DFDS have received my API details?
The data submitted will be sent to the Authorities as required, but will not be imported into our system, therefore you will not receive any confirmation that this has been completed or received. However once submitted, it will state on the platform in which you completed it on ‘All passenger identity details have now been submitted. You can now close this window’ Please note due to GDPR regulations, once submitted, it is not possible to view your API details in our system.
10. I am having issues entering my API details, what should I do?
If you are experiencing issues when entering your Advance Passenger Information, we will collect this information at the port when you check in.
11. Is my data safe?
