DFDS ORDERS 100 VOLVO ELECTRIC TRUCKS FOR DEPLOYMENT ON EUROPEAN TRANSPORT NETWORKS

DFDS has placed a major commercial order for Volvo electric trucks. To date, this is one of the largest orders for heavy-duty electric trucks ever placed.

  • The deployment of electric trucks is a way for DFDS to reduce C02 emissions by 45% by 2030.
  • The new fleet of Volvo FM electric trucks will be introduced across DFDS' European route network during 2022 and 2023.

"DFDS is committed to becoming carbon neutral and offering a sustainable supply chain to its customers in Europe and Turkey. Electrification is an important factor in this process of reducing our carbon footprint. The electric trucks will enter service during 2022 and 2023 and will replace the regular trucks," says Niklas Andersson, executive vice president and head of the logistics division at DFDS.

A Volvo FM electric heavy-duty truck can carry a maximum weight of 44 tonnes (combined gross weight). The new electric fleet will begin to replace the regular trucks during 2022 and 2023 at DFDS. These trucks will be able to travel up to 300 km with the maximum load. The trucks will be used for short and long journeys within the DFDS supply chain.

"These vehicles are best in class and it is necessary to train our drivers to drive them. DFDS will rely on Volvo's expertise in eco-driving and our close cooperation will enable us to remain competitive during this transition," says Niklas.

"This is a major milestone in our commitment to fossil fuel-free transport and I am very proud of the partnership we have established with DFDS. Together we are proving to the world that electrified heavy-duty trucking is a viable solution today. I strongly believe that this will encourage many more customers to confidently take the first step in their own electrification process," comments Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
