To make your journey seamless, we’ve created a handy guide with all the information you need for traveling with your bicycle.
Booking your bicycle
- It’s easy to take your bike onboard our ferries, whether it's mounted on your vehicle or you're cycling on your own.
- When travelling as a foot passenger bicycles are carried free of charge, meaning you can easily explore all our destinations on two wheels.
- To guarantee the correct allocation of space, please book one bicycle per passenger when travelling as a group, unless riding a tandem bike.
- If you wish to travel with a pet or excess luggage this must be booked in advance with our Customer Care team here.
Checking-In & Boarding
To ensure a safe and smooth journey at our Poole, Portsmouth, Jersey, and St Malo ports, please note the following:
- When you arrive to the port follow the signs to DFDS check-in via the vehicle lanes with your travel documents ready.
- If travelling with a pet or excess luggage please visit the passenger terminal before heading to the DFDS check-in.
- Check-in for vehicle passengers closes 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. Please allow plenty of time keeping an eye on DFDS travel updates for any changes to departure time. All times are based on local time.
- At check-in, our team will direct you to the dedicated lane for bicycle boarding.
- To ensure a smooth and safe boarding process, cyclists will be boarded together which may be first, last or in the general flow of vehicle loading depending on the crew’s instructions.
- When boarding you should always walk with your bike.
- Cyclist shoes must be removed onboard. Please ensure you bring a change of shoes for the crossing
Disembarking
- The ship’s officer will instruct you how to disembark down the ramp when it is safe to do so.
- When disembarking, you should walk with your bike.
- When you arrive to your destination port follow the signs to the EXIT via the Vehicle Lanes.
