Filming with DFDS
Filming with DFDS
We work with news crews, television production companies and students to facilitate filming on our routes.
We will not permit filming on board our ships for the following:
- Corporate productions and advertising
- Charity films (unless in support of national seafarers charities, the RNLI, the Royal British Legion or regional charities in the areas from which we operate)
- Reality / talent shows
- Under no circumstances will we allow you to interview or film our ferry Captains on the bridge of the ship during the crossing
We will not permit filming during our high season months (June, July and August).
Please complete and submit an application form to our PR team at uk.pr@dfds.com at least one month in advance of your proposed date of travel.
Public Liability Insurance
You will need to have Public Liability Insurance for all of your filming. If you are a student you will need your university to cover you on their insurance.
Hiring Ships
It is not possible to hire a ship for the purpose of filming on board for a prolonged period. All of our ships are employed on our routes serving customers on a daily basis and we do not have the capacity to take a ship out of service to accommodate filming.
Filming at ports
Any filming at ports must be approved by the appropriate port authority and will be subject to completion of the port’s safety and security inductions. A minimum of one months' notice for all filming is required by all ports to process your filming request.
Port of Dover – Please contact the port’s communications team directly to obtain permission at Helen.Smith@doverport.co.uk or on 01304 240400
Port of Calais – Please contact Isabelle Fauquet at isabelle.fauquet@calais-port.fr or on 0033 321 462 910
Port of Tyne – Please contact Lisa Donohoe at Lisa.Donohoe@PortofTyne.co.uk or on 01914 407463
Port of Dunkirk – Please contact Marie-Elizabeth Bogucki on 00 33 28 28 77 63
Ship Schedules
Every day, DFDS ships sail on routes that serve customers - for this reason, we can't break or change the schedule of the ship to accommodate the filming.
Proudly named the World’s Leading Ferry Operator
We did it! After being crowned ‘Europe’s Leading Ferry Operator 2024’ at the World Travel Awards earlier this year, we are delighted to announce we have retained our title as the World’s Leading Ferry Operator.
We were also once again recognised as having the best website in our industry – scooping both the European and World awards in 2024.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who voted, and to our passengers, colleagues and partners who contribute to our continued success – we couldn’t do it without you all.
