An epic maritime mission with Pamela Lee

We’re proud to support one of Ireland’s most accomplished offshore sailors, Pamela Lee, on her #EmpowHer journey - an inspiring mission that will lead her to compete in the Route du Rhum 2026, the world’s longest solo transatlantic race.

Breaking barriers

It’s not just about reaching the finish line, it’s about making my country, my supporters, and my partners proud.”

Pamela Lee is more than an elite sailor - she’s a trailblazer. From setting three world records for the fastest sail around Ireland in 2020 to becoming the first Irish sailor to skipper the prestigious Transat Jacques Vabre in 2023, she continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in offshore racing.    DFDS is proud to support Pamela as she prepares for her biggest challenge yet - the Route du Rhum, a 3,500 nautical mile solo race from St. Malo, France, to Guadeloupe. This iconic race is one of the toughest in offshore sailing, and only 5% of competitors have been women. By competing, Pamela will become the first Irish sailor to take on this incredible challenge.

#Empowher

This dream would not be within reach without the unwavering support of sponsors like DFDS. Their belief in my vision and their commitment over the next two years make this shared journey both remarkable and deeply rewarding.”

The #EmpowHer campaign, supported by DFDS, is a two-year programme designed to support Pamela as she prepares for the Route du Rhum. Her rigorous racing schedule will see her competing across Europe in 2025 and 2026, including:

  • Offshore races between France, the UK, and Ireland from May to September 2025

  • Transat Café L’Or 2025 – a double-handed transatlantic race from Le Havre to Martinique

  • SSE Renewables Around Ireland Race 2026 – showcasing Irish maritime excellence

  • Route du Rhum 2026 – the grand finale and the ultimate test of endurance and skill

Each race will not only prepare Pamela for the Route du Rhum but also provide a platform to champion diversity in sailing and the maritime industry.

Inspiring the next generation of female mariners

At DFDS, we’re committed to driving gender equality and encouraging more women to pursue careers in the maritime industry.

Between 2023 and today, we’ve nearly doubled the percentage of women in deck and engine management roles to 9.8%, but our journey doesn’t stop here. We’re continuing to work towards a goal of 20% female representation by 2030.    Pamela’s role as both a skilled athlete and a role model for women across the world aligns closely with our mission to inspire the next generation. Her story shines a spotlight on what’s possible when talent, opportunity, and determination come together.
